the author attempts to help translators to take  fullconsideration their own “pre-understanding”, horizons of original poems and poets,and horizons of TL readers and culture during translation, so as to achieve thenarrowest “horizon gap” to conduct more satisfactory translations of Tang poetry.More importantly, when writing this thesis, the author has in mind to shed new lighton the translation of classical Chinese poetry d on the PhilosophicalHermeneutics, and to contribute her share to improve cultural exchanges betweenChina and other countries.

　　
　　1.2 Data Collection and methodology数据收集和方法
　　In order to conduct a complete analysis of translations of Tang poetry, the authorsystematically collected Tang poems  many world-famous books which offer usthe most professional translated versions. The original poems are collected  tenbooks, such as 300 Tang Poems （《唐诗三百首》） edited by Wu Juntao in 1997,English-Chinese 300 Tang Poems A New Translation （《唐诗三百首新译》） editedby Xu Yuanzhong, Lu Peixian and Wu Juntao, ed Poems of Li Bai （《李白诗选》） translated by Xu Yuanzhong, Discrimination of the English Versions ofClassical Chinese Poems of Love 《浪漫中华古诗英译赏析》edited by Xu Shouqinand Xu Shouping,  Poem to Poem: An English Translation of Classical ChinesePoems 《从诗到诗——中国古诗词英译》 translated by Ren Zhiji and Yu Zhengand so on. There are three principles for the data collection. First, the author willchoose Tang poems as much as possible, and the poems are most representative onesand carry rich cultural connotations; second, poets chosen by the author are different stages of the Tang Dynasty, such as Chen Ziang  the Early Tang, Li Baiand Du Fu  the Golden Tang, Bai Juyi  the Middle Tang and Du Mu the Late Tang; third, all translators of Tang poetry ed in this thesis are famousscholars or translators who have a wide knowledge of both western and Chineseliterature and culture, and have considerable professional experience of translatingclassical Chinese poems, with many works to their credit.Thousands of Tang poems are included in the ten books, so it is impossible for theauthor to enumerate and analyze all poems in this thesis. The twenty examples withforty versions listed in this thesis are far  comprehensive in comparison with themagnitude in the vast ocean of Tang poetry, but they are representative ones of Tangpoetry and basically reflect the role of “fusion of horizons” in guiding the Tangpoetry translation. Besides, the author give seven tables including another 60 Englishversions of 30 Tang poems for comparison, for the purpose of proving the versionfusing multi-horizons is more satisfactory and acceptable.All books listed above include diverse and relatively standard versions of Tangpoetry, which have contributed enormously to the research of this thesis. Forexample, the majority of the 300 Tang Poems are masterpieces that have been recitedby people for centuries.Once it was published, it spread like wildfires, and was so widely circulatedthat almost every family has a copy. Not only has the influence of the book farsurpassed that of Poems by Myriad Poets, but also it has made those hundredsof anthologies of Tang Poetry published before it look pale or pass  oblivionoven.
