Translation, buthe did not go fiirther into it. In this thesis, Harmony Theory as a standard is bothabstract and specific. For the former, it studies translation from a high and deep macroview to include almost all elements about translation. For the latter，it has five aspects:aesthetics, unity, universalism, dialectics and creativity, which can well guide thetranslation practice. Harmony Theory definitely has opened a new window to Cathayand helps to make a fair judgment of Pound's translation. The result is potentiallyfruitful.Second, it holds that poetry can be translated. In this way, translators are encouragedto do poetry translation in the perspective of Harmony Theory. More and more poemswill be translated and readers will have a chance to share and appreciate more beautifulpoetry in other countries.Third, this theory may be not only suitable for poetry translation, but also proper toother genres of literary works. Its application can be extended if Harmony Theory isunderstood and employed flexibly.Fourth, though the climax of Imagism movement has gone and Pound's Cathay isfar from our time, it is still meaningful for us to study for the spirit of creating poetryand ideas about poetry translation. The study of Cathay and the essence of Imagism willhelp scholars with their creation and translation in poetry.Last but not the least, the concept of harmony may provoke readers to think more.This idea helps readers live in a more healthy way. The root of "harmony" is planted inthe soil of Chinese culture which is foil of wisdom. If readers can get the essence ofharmony, they will be benefited more.

　　In order to well demonstrate the application of Harmony Theory in poetrytranslation，the writer goes as follows: In Chapter 1, the writer gives the introduction ofthe whole paper, which clearly shows the writer's purpose and significance of the studyand also the frame of the paper. In Chapter 2，the writer first introduces Zheng Hailing'sHarmony Theory in Translation, in which the writer focuses on the content of the theoryand the five aspects of it. These five aspects are aesthetics, unity, universalism,dialectics, and creativity which are the essential aspects of Harmony Theory, that's tosay, if translators and evaluators take these aspects into consideration, they will do andevaluate the translation works more properly. Then, the writer tries to demonstrate thetheory as a standard of translation evaluation in a macro view and makes clear of itslimits in poetry translation in the aspects of its untranslatability, its features and itscurrent situation. In order to prove the availability of the theory, the writer tries to solvethe contradiction between the faithfulness and aesthetics in poetry translation. InChapter 3, the writer gives a brief introduction of Pound's work of TheRiver-Merchant s Wife: A Letter. First，Pound is introduced which includes his Cathay，his translation ideas, and the general evaluation of his translation. Second，this poem isintroduced including the poem itself, its content, its translation and evaluation of thetranslation. In Chapter 4，it focuses on the case study of The River Merchants wife: ALetter. In this chapter, the appreciation is divided into three parts: manifestation ofaesthetics, manifestation of unity and universalism and manifestation of dialectics andcreativity.
