Desperate Housewives is a popular American TV series created by Marc Cherry，which began airing on ABC in 2004. The series totally has eight seasons in which thenew clues and housewives join in the story of each one. Once it was the globalmost-watched TV series，won the championship of American weekly viewing ratings listfor several times, and acquiring numerous awards in American famous award ceremonies.So the name of the series has immediately formed a cultural phenomenon sweepingAmerican, which make it broadcast in more than 100 countries and regions includingChina.Set on Wisteria Lane in the fictional town of Fairview, Eagle State, the series told astory about the lives of four middle-class housewives following their domestic straggleswith several mysteries involving their husbands, friends and neighbors unfold in thebackground. The story began from a suicide of a housewife named Mary Alice Young.She killed herself，but she told the following plot of her living neighbors including herfour girl friends as a watcher in a calm voice.

Conclusion

Euphemism is both a language phenomenon and a cultural phenomenon which iswidely used everywhere in human society and interaction. Plenty of research oneuphemism has covered linguistic, sociolinguistic, cultural, pragmatic and translationfields up to the present. For the translation of euphemism it is far more important to havean exact understanding in its meaning and context. Based on the abundant analyses, thisthesis finds that Skopostheorie can be used to guide the translation of English euphemismin audiovisual works and provide a broader horizon for the study. Under the guidance ofthree rules of Skopostheorie English euphemism in audiovisual works can be exactlytranslated according to some typical translation strategies based on fully considering thecommunicative functions of English euphemism and subtitle features.There are still some limitations in the thesis because of the author's limitedcapability and knowledge.
