2.2.1 Definition of Learning Strategies
Learning strategy, as a set of complete concepts, appeared first with Bruner (1956)proposing cognitive development in 1956. Since then, it has been gaining importance andattention. Different researchers tend to have their own views on “learning strategy” the concept, so the definition of it is quite diversified. The learning strategies mentioned in thisarticle mainly refer to language learning strategies. Linguists, experts and scholars of foreignlanguage pedagogy at home and abroad have made different definitions of the concept inaccordance with varied criteria, basis and perspectives.
By consulting the literature, it is found that the most representative definitions oflanguage learning strategies by international scholars are as follows, as shown in Table 2-1.

As for the coverage of learning strategies in the NECS, the target textbooks presentmetacognitive, cognitive, communication, and affective strategies, which fully cover the 23specific learning strategies proposed in the NECS. The English textbooks for high schoolstudents should be compiled in accordance with the curriculum standards, and the content ofthe textbooks should be consistent with goals and requirements stated in the curriculum (PRCEducation Ministry, 2017). According to previous studies, some versions of textbooks cannotmeet the requirements of the NECS to full extend.
