Chapter One Introduction

1.1 Research Background

Unit Integrity Instruction(UII)has been an important research topic in recentyears and has been highly sought after by many researchers in the field of Englishteaching.Under the guidance of UII,teachers are required to grasp the overallcharacteristics of the textbook,combine the characteristics of different content,section activities,and teaching tasks of the textbook,and design and arrange unitteaching activities as a whole.This is conducive to promoting English teaching fromfragmentation to integration,greatly improving teaching efficiency,and alsostimulating students to form their own language system,thereby helping themimprove their comprehensive application ability effectively.In addition,UII is basedon the teaching concept of a large thematic unit and designed with the help of realproblem situations,which is a necessary requirement for students to achieve their coreliteracy goals and also in line with the requirements of curriculum reform anddevelopment trends.

At present,there are many studies on UII,but most of them focus on the concept,design principles,implementation processes,and other aspects.In addition,theexisting objectives of UII only focus on improving students'grades,and do noteffectively cultivate students'deep thinking and abilities,that is,they do not orient toDL.And there are few studies on Deep Learning-oriented English Unit IntegrityInstruction(EUII)which is useful for effective teaching and learning.

1.2 Research Questions and Research Purposes

This study explores the principles and steps in designing Deep Learning-orientedEUII in senior high school,and attempts to further verify the effect of this teaching onstudents’DL through the case study of senior high school English.The main researchquestions are as follows:

1.What are the principles and steps in designing Deep Learning-oriented EUII insenior high school?

2.How does the Deep Learning-oriented EUII in senior high school affectstudents'DL?

This study takes the result of DL as the goal,aiming to explore the principles andsteps in designing Deep Learning-oriented EUII in senior high school and explore theeffect of this teaching on students'DL.The specific research objectives are as follows:

Firstly,by reviewing relevant literature,the definition,features and strategies ofDL,models of EUII,are sorted out and summarized.Based on this,the principles andsteps in designing Deep Learning-oriented EUII in senior high school are concluded.

Secondly,according to the specific implementation of teaching design,students'performance data and interview results,this thesis discusses the practical effect ofDeep Learning-oriented EUII in senior high school and students'attitudes towards thisteaching.

Chapter Two Literature Review

2.1 Studies on Deep Learning

Research on DL includes theoretical research on the definition,features,strategies,and empirical research on its application.

2.1.1 Definition of Deep Learning
