摘要:Acquisitional study of treating DC as a structure with its own meaning is in itsinfancy. Therefore, there are chiefly two main reasons for choosing this topic to becovered in this thesis.
2.2 Definition and Classification of DC
DC is a construction which has caught researchers attention long ago. However,researchers tend to discuss it as an alternative of DOC. Under the perspective ofCognitive Construction Grammar, DC expresses the meaning of X cause Z to move toY with NP+V+NPd+P+NPias its form, which differs from that of DOC as what isillustrated in previous section.Three arguments are involved in DC. They are agent argument, patient argumentand recipient argument. An agent argument is usually a doer or a thing that performsthe action. Usually in a DC, agent is a person or a thing causes patient to move torecipient. Patient argument is a person or a thing affected by the action. Patient in DCis the thing caused o move. According to Dai (2007), patient argument is a noun ornoun phrase expressing something animate including either concrete or abstract things.As for recipient, according to Mo Qiyang & Wen Xu (2007), it can be either animateor inanimate, because Y is the destination or target that Z moves to. However, this ideaneeds further analyzing and proving. Because, as they argue, the central meaning ofDC stresses the process of moving and recipient is mainly the destination of patientargument. Therefore, this thesis believes that a recipient in DC should be inanimate.
