The multimodal teaching model avoids the unitary traditional teaching mode and makes teaching content vivid, then creates a lively and an interesting learning environment and to improve teaching efficiency of input. Meanwhile, this  model  brings  breakthrough  changes  in  English  teaching  methods.  This  way  of  teaching can  not  only  broaden  the  students'  learning  channels,  improve  the  students'  learning  interest, strengthen  the  information  input  and  improve the  teaching  effect,  but  also  break  through  the limits of natural language in the classroom. So it makes teaching environment refresh. In this thesis,  teaching  is  not  based  on  a  single  mode  to  teach  students.  Through  images,  voice, animations,  texts,  students  can  learn  English  vocabulary  in  a  multimodal  era.  We  can  find multimodal  theory  has  a  good  effect  on  English  vocabulary  teaching,  which  can  enrich English  vocabulary  learning  theory  and  inject  new  concept  in  English  class.  It  can  have  an essential  theoretical  significance  in  vocabulary  learning  and  teaching.  Meanwhile,  the  new teaching  method  can  improve  teachers’  instruction  ability,  promote  English  vocabulary teaching theory taking another step forward and provide theoretical References for the further study of vocabulary teaching method.

2   Literature Review  

In  this  section,  the  first  part  introduces  multimodal  theory,  including  the  definition  of modality  and  application  of  multimodal  theory.  The  second  part  is  the  overview  of  English vocabulary teaching in China. The third part is theoretical foundations of multimodal theory, which includes systematic functional linguistic and cognitive psychology.
