5.1 Conclusion

This project report is completed based on the translation practice of Fifth-Generation(5G) Telecommunications Technologies: Issues for Congress, it mainly deals with thedifficulties and issues and provides the corresponding solutions to them under the guidanceof Skopos Theory. Looking back on the translation process, although the translatorencountered many problems, he had tried his best to finish the translation.

Through the whole translation process, the author summarized the difficulties at threelevels: the lexical level, the syntactical level and discourse level. What’s more, therespective feasible solutions were also put forward. At the lexical level, terms, foreigncompanies’ and organizations’ names, abbreviations as well as polysemy posed thechallenge for the translator and the feasible solutions were reference to conventionality,literal translation plus explanation, free translation and zero translation. At the syntacticallevel, the translator dealt with the passive voice and put forward conversion of sentencepatterns, adjusting the sentence structure, and amplification. At the discourse level,reference and conjunctions were utilized to make the source text coherent and smooth. Thetranslator enhanced his translation skills as well as improved his understanding of SkoposTheory in practice by solving these problems.
