ⅠIntroduction
Each novel can be viewed as a world made of symbols although it is limited in pages and the number of its characters, a no-bordered world delicately delineated by the author, which brings us with the diversity of life and helps us to have a deeper recognition of the truth of the reality and a better cultivation of our reason, our conscience and our aesthetic tastes as well
Jack London, the author of The Call本英语毕业论文英语论文网www.51lunwen.org整理提供 of the Wild, was an illegitimate son, born in San Francisco on January 12th, 1876. He took his stepfather’s name and grew up in poverty. Not only did he inherit his stepfather’s surname, but also he inherited his stepfather’s excellent quality. From his early youth, he endured everything and tasted the poverty. A great difference between poverty and richness, inequality of the society and the life and death competition between people left a deep impression on London’s young heart. Besides these London kept unforgettably in his mind a fact that he was an illegitimate son, though his stepfather and stepsister cared him well, he felt himself was inferior to other people consistently. So a mood of resisting society, abhorring reality usually emerged from his mind.
Due to that his stepfather lost his job, London became the family’s mainstay. When he finished his primary school, he became a laboring people as other adults. This labor way of life was just like a “laboring animal” and stimulated his heart deeply; he realized that the poor people in this society did not have other ways to live except laboring. So in order to survive, London must adapt himself to this cruel circumstance. He hated capitalists, hated this exploiting society.
However, all his resistibility was in vain. During his rise from obscure poverty to wealth and fame in these ten years, he struggled to survive; he did different kinds of jobs, this legendary life experience left London a great quantity of creative materials, and nobody was willing to adventure into the storm above the sea and the freezing cold area. London was forced by the brutal life to do this.
In the spring of 1894, a campaign of本英语毕业论文英语论文网www.51lunwen.org整理提供 the unemployed men broke out. This thrilling expedition made London undergo serious tests. The darkness of the society, the inequality of the world, the poverty of the life and the heavy burden of the family left precocious London to think that what was the original reason to make the American society became so fair. This was the foundation of his thought that moved him to protest against this real society. Then he joined the Oakland chapter of the Socialist Labor Party and became an active member. As a result, London believed in both the inevitable triumph of the working class and the evolutionary necessity of the survival of the strongest. The Call of the Wild, one of his most famous works dramatizes his belief in the law of survival and the will to power.
The Call of the Wild, published in 1903, remains London’s most famous work blending his experiences as a gold prospector in the Canadian wilderness with his ideas about nature on the struggle for existence. He drew these ideas from various influential figures, including Charles Darwin, an English naturalist credited with developing theories about biological evolution, and Friedrich Nietzsche论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
