摘要:本文是一篇英美文学论文,就目前地球生态系统中的冲突来看,生命的浩瀚、各方面的复杂性以及由此所涉及的对人类精神文化的深刻影响,尖锐地提醒人们,不能忽视和漠视系统内的悲剧。

笔者认为在现代社会,商业消费已成为社会控制个人生活、剥夺个人自由、瓦解个人精神的有效策略。在科技日益发达、物质日益丰富的时代,精神问题反而更加突出。精神生态学是研究精神主体(主要是人)与所处环境(包括自然环境、社会环境、文化环境)之间相互关系的学科。它一方面关系到精神主体的健康成长,另一方面又关系到精神变量协调下生态系统的平衡、稳定和演化。

I Introduction


1.1 A Brief Introduction to Margaret Atwood

Margaret Atwood was born on 18th November 1939 in Ottawa, the capital of Canada.She is the middle of three children in her family. Her father Carl Edmund Atwood is anentomologist, and her mother Margaret Dorothy is a former dietitian and nutritionist. Due tothe needs of her father’s work, her family went to the northern forest area of Ontario andQuebec every spring and returned to the city before winter when she was very young. Thechildhood experience of living in two different worlds of the jungle and the city providedbackground and material for Atwood’s novels. And the ordinary but strong-willed parentsdeeply influenced Atwood. She graduated from high school with excellent grades, wonseveral awards, and received a scholarship from the University of Toronto. In 1959, Atwoodstudied at the University of Toronto. During the university, she was taught and dialed byfamous teachers such as the mythical Archet theorist Northrop Frye, which influenced herfuture creation. In 1961 she continued her studies and obtained a master degree in literature.From 1962 to 1963 and from 1965 to 1967, she studied at Harvard University twice to pursueher Ph.D. During this period, she experienced a failed marriage. Then she began living withthe Canadian novelist Graeme Gibson in 1973. She lectured at University of British Columbia,University of Alberta and Writer-In-Residence from 1964 to 1973. Atwood was also a currentVice-President of International PEN from 1984 to 1985.

As a prolific writer, both Atwood and her works have been awarded numerous prizes andhonors. Researchers have put a lot of labels on Atwood, such as the representative of the international feminist movement in literature. As an outstanding contemporary woman, herworks show the picture of Canadian life vividly. Atwood published her first novel The EdibleWoman in 1964 which began to make her well-known to the literary era. In 1985, TheHandmaid’s Tale was in the finalist for the 1986 Booker Prize. Later, she created manyexcellent novels including Cat’s Eye (1988), The Robber Bride (1993) and Alias Grace (1996),which won the Giller Prize, entered the finalist for the Booker Prize and shortlisted for the1997 Orange Prize for Fiction. Her most successful novel The Blind Assassin was publishedin 2000 and won the Booker Prize for her finally. She has also created short fictioncollections such as Dancing Girls (1977) , Murder in the Dark (1983) and Good Bones (1992)with which we are familiar. Oryx and Crake (2003) was another novel which reflected herecological awareness. She connected women with the nature and appealed to give love tothem. Overall, Alias Grace is regarded as one ofAtwood’s most attractive novels.

1.2 A Brief Introduction to Alias Grace

Alias Grace became a best seller as soon as it was published in 1996. It was shortlistedfor the Booker Prize and was awarded the Giller Prize and Premio Mondello. It was a novel ofhistorical fiction which combined psychoanalysis, feminism, post-modernism and othercritical theories and creative techniques.
