ching have fully revealed the importance of“imitation” of the “Eight-Step Model” in senior high school English writing class overthese years, such as Wang Qing (1994); Suo Yulan (1994); Chen Qinghua (1996); ZhengYinong (2000); Zheng Youxiao & Zhang Guohua (2006); Lu Jun (2008); Yu Xuhong(2008); Xia Xinrong (2011); Wang Li (2011); Fu Dengshun (2012). Imitation plays anirreplaceable role in the teaching of second language writing. These researchers believe itcan improve learners' writing skills. However, due to the domestic education with somehistorical reasons and the test oriented, the study of the reading-writing relation startsrelatively late and is less extensive. After reading and learning other people’s writingstyle and language as well as content, peer revision and teacher evaluation, as the postprocess of the “Eight-Step Model” writing teaching, can give meaningful feedback tostudents’ writing achievements.


Chapter 2 Literature Review


2.1 Definition of “Eight-Step Model” and its Contents

“Eight-Step Model”, whose definition will be interpreted from “imitation”, “writing”and “revision”, is composed of them .

The definition of imitation in writing. Modern Chinese Dictionary (8th Edition)(2012) interprets imitation as “following the existing method or style”. The OxfordAdvanced English-Chinese Dictionary (2000) defines imitation as “to be copied, acquiredor followed as an example”. Suo Yulan (1994) believes that imitation is to imitate thecontent and structure of the article. Domestic scholar Wu Shuyan (2006) defines imitationas “a learning writing method that imitates others’ writing, established normativesentences and articles in the process of writing”. Gu Changyan (2007) regards imitationwriting as a basic training method. Students carry out writing training according to themodel’s writing style or teaching materials (including content) provided by teachers. YuXuhong (2008) believes that imitation writing is the process of guessing, comprehendingand mastering the writing ideas, language styles and writing methods of model essays,internalizing them into one’s own writing knowledge, exerting their associative power totheir full extent in the light of their material, learning from the writing methods of textsand rethinking one’s own articles. According to Lu Jun (2008), imitation writing is such aprocess that leads to the occurance of the similarities and differences of thinking, andmakes many similar blocks in learners’ brain fuse automatically, connect, and activate.Wang Li (2011) thinks that imitation writing is a training method of learning writing byimitating the established standard sentences or articles, which is a traditional writingtraining method. Fu Dengshun (2012) believes that imitation writing refers to learninghow to do according to a ready-made way, which is a selective imitation with aesthetictaste on the basis of understanding and appreciation. 


2.2 Theoretical Framework

This study is based on memetics, Krashen’s input hypothesis and Swain’s outputhypothesis to conduct an experiment.

2.2.1 Memetics
