摘要:本文是一篇高中英语论文,本文旨在揭示高中英语教师批判性思维观的现状及其在高中英语教学中的实际情况,探讨读写结合英语教学在培养高中生批判性思维中的作用。
本文是一篇高中英语论文,本研究设计了一份问卷调查上海市高中英语教师对批判性思维的看法。根据问卷调查结果,大多数教师仍然关注英语教育和教学的趋势(尤其是“思维质量”),并意识到批判性思维的重要性。
Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Research Background
With the advent of information age and the development of AI technology, critical thinking is regarded as one of the most important competences in the changing and competitive 21st century. A growing number of business leaders, politicians, and educators are united around the idea that students need “21st century skills” to be successful today, and critical thinking is an indispensable “21stcentury skill” (Rotherham and Willingham 2009: 1). Scholars and educators at home and abroad have started a new round of studies of “critical thinking”. The latest English Curriculum Standards (2017) in China stipulates that: “Language is not only a tool of communication but also a tool of thought” and “English class should not only cultivate students’ language competence, but also foster their thinking ability”.
Vygotsky (1986) views language and learning as inseparable from the development of human thought and from the social and cultural conditions in which they take place. Language learning includes not only the learning of skills or the acquisition of knowledge, but also the learning of thinking, the modification of attitudes and even changes in personality (Stern 1997). English as a language and English learning has close interrelation by nature, and English teachers should utilize the subject characteristics and advantages to promote students’ thinking ability in ELT class (Cheng 2015). Criticism and creativity are two essential characteristics of thinking. Critical thinking is an important prerequisite and component of innovation ability (Richard and Elder 2019). In other word, without criticism, there would be no innovation. Although cultivating students’ skills and dispositions as critical thinkers is difficult, it has become widely acknowledged that critical thinking needs to and can be nurtured through subject matter learning (Wilson 2016).
1.2 Research Purpose and Significance
The importance and value of critical thinking for talent development is increasingly recognized by scholars in the field of education. How to develop students’ critical thinking ability in English classes has become one of the main challenges faced by researchers.
