5.1 Results
In this section,the results of the questionnaires for teachers and students,theresults of pretests and post-tests,and the results of the interview will be presented oneby one.
5.1.1 Results of questionnaires
The two questionnaires,separately for teachers and students,are conductedbefore the experiment.The results of them are shown in the following part.
1)Results of questionnaire for teachers
In order to learn about teachers’current situation of English reading teachingin senior high school,a questionnaire was conducted in English teachers before theexperiment.The results are shown as follow.
(1)Teaching methods and style
Question 1,question 7,question 9 and question 10 in the questionnaireinvestigate teachers’teaching methods and style.The results are in Figure 5.1.
Chapter Six Conclusion
6.1 Major findings
After reading the outcomes of the experiment,the writer has observed twoimportant findings as a whole,which are shown as follows.
(1)The time-limited and genre-specified Sustained Silent Reading can enlargehigh school students’size of vocabulary.As is analyzed in previous chapter,ChapterFive,the vocabulary level of the experimental class and the control class is similarbefore the experiment.However,after 16-week of time-limited and genre-specifiedSustained Silent Reading training under the guidance of teacher,the average score ofthe students in the experimental class is much higher than that of the control class,demonstrating that the time-limited and genre-specified Sustained Silent Reading hasa positive influence on students’vocabulary size.Results and analysis,which arediscussed in the fifth chapter,confirm the effects of the time-limited andgenre-specified Sustained Silent Reading on high school students’English vocabularylevel.Materials of the same genre can provide learners with familiar genre-relatedwords,which can be helpful to master the characteristics of the structure.Reading thearticles of the same genre can increase the frequency of meeting the same words orphrases,so that learners can review and deepen their understanding of these wordsthrough different contexts.With students’vocabulary size constantly enlarging,learners will feel that it is much easier for them to understand the passages.In thisway,learners are able to understand the passages better and are more willing to readmore.
