摘要:In recent years, people's attitudes toward errors have changed greatly, owing to thedevelopment of Linguistics, Applied Linguistics,Cognitive Psychology and other relateddisciplines. Errors have not been regarded as language inability any more, but as an evidenceof cognizing learning process and learning strategy.

Chapter One Introduction


1.1 Background
In this new era of information, communication has become a dispensable part ofpeople's life and work. With the international and diversified development of cross-culturalcommunication, there has been a growing demand for English talents. A survey of 126foreign-invested enterprises and 320 professionals made by Fu Zheng indicates that listeningand speaking are regarded as the most important English skills (Fu Zheng, 2003), YangHuizhong made a survey on employers, which indicated that the requirement for Englishskills of employers according to the importance were speaking 48.6%,reading 47.6%,listening 40.8%, writing 26.2%(Yang Huizhong,1998). According to the social requirement,the ministry of Education proposes that the aim of education is 'training large number of theinternationalized human resources who have international vision and can deal withinternational affairs and international competition ” in National Education Reform andDevelopment of Long-term Planning Prograins(2010-2020). Therefore, a survey of students'oral English ability has a great significance to the present situation and future reform of ourteaching.

1.2 The Significance of Study
In recent years, people's attitudes toward errors have changed greatly, owing to thedevelopment of Linguistics, Applied Linguistics,Cognitive Psychology and other relateddisciplines. Errors have not been regarded as language inability any more, but as an evidenceof cognizing learning process and learning strategy. Therefore, analysis of learners' errors hasalso become a vital proposition in the area of linguistics. Meanwhile, Gao Yuan pointed out“There is something unsatisfactory about the research on Error Analysis, There is moresynchronic study than diachronic one,which cannot reflect learners' real situation." (CarlJames. 2001 :F23) Therefore, diachronic multi-sampled researches on oral English which aregoing on in a natural and observational condition are badly needed.Error Analysis is used widely by both teachers and researchers, which includes collecting,identifying, classifying, marking,explaining and evaluating errors. It is believed that it canprovide descriptive and explanatory information on learners' errors. It is a tool to analyzelearners' errors and can shed light on the acquisition of second or foreign language. From Corder's viewpoints, it is clear that Error Analysis (which can be abbreviated toEA) is beneficial to learners, teachers and researchers. Through EA teachers can get theevidence of how the language is acquired; get to know what problems learners are having,how far they are form the goal and what remains to learn; find out the effectiveness of theirteaching materials and their teaching techniques,what parts have been inadequately learnedand need further attention; decide whether they go on with their teaching or devote more timeto the item they are working on. Thus teachers can know and correct learners' errorssystematically; prepare lessons that are more suitable to certain learners; distribute class timewisely and adopt an effective and sufficient way of teaching.
