Delu (1998) analyzes the stylistic characteristics of news discourse and claims thatcontextual factor mainly determines the grammatical features of words, text andsemantic structures. In addition, Guo Hong (2001) makes some analysis on theregister features of English news and refers to that register features of lexis, words,syntax together with text should be emphasized. Besides, Huang Guowen (1988)points out three different types of journalist writing from analysis of textual structure.Last but not least, Zhang Jian (1990) analyzes linguistic characteristics as well asstructural features of news discourse from the stylistic perspective.From above, it is undeniable that much achievement has been made on the studyof journalistic discourse from home and abroad. Nevertheless, compared with thestudy of journalistic discourse, the analysis of editorials which is ranked as aconsiderable genre of news comments is considerably limited. Therefore, previousstudies on editorials will be concerned, followed by the brief discussion of newsdiscourse.

2.2 Previous Studies on News Discourse
Considered as an important form of information discourse, news discourse hasbeen analyzed by scholars both at home and abroad from different perspectives.English news discourse has attracts attentions of numerous researchers, such asVan Dijik, Bell, Fower, Cristal Davy and so on. Van Dijik(1988) develops hisapproach, named by himself as "a new, interdisciplinary theory of news in the press"and highlights structural study of news discourse with the foundation ofsocio-cognitive approach which aims to establish the connection between the text andits context. However, based on a macroscopic angle, his study fails to unfold anoverall explanation of linguistic features of news discourse.Bell (1991), an outstanding sociolinguist in the field, examines the influence ofsociolinguistic matters to the writing of news discourse on the basis of sociolinguisticconcepts and also pays much attention to readers' awareness of media as well as therelationship between their awareness and news discourse. But it is fitful that systemicrelationship between language and sociolinguistic phenomenon can not be found inhis study.Within the framework of critical linguistic Analysis (CDA), Fowler (1979)explores language in news from the sight of critical linguistics, which not onlyprovides a social perspective in the study of news language but also enables the studyof language to become a cross-discipline tool. Focusing on the impacts of social,political and economic factors on production of media language, his study mainlyconcentrates on the microscopic angle of language and therefore the macro-level ofdiscourse structure is neglected.
