multiple layers of relationship in Author, Author. Some Chinese reviewers are more apt to read the novel in comparison with Lodge’s other works, more reliable on Lodge’s critical idea. With reference to Lodge’s former works, the writer’s personal experience and the paratexts of the novel, Zhang Qiong makes a tentative analysis of writers’ changing attitude towards writing, the competition between peer writers, and the powerlessness of author in market. Zhang succeeds in exploring the multiple layers of relationship in the novel, but her opinion that this novel’s lack of travesty, irony and polyphonic voices (108) is not wholly reasonable. Liang Fang discusses the realistic characteristics of Author, Author, and Cai Zhiquan elaborats the implication of paratexts of the novel with more details in his article. In her master
thesis, Yang Jiaojiao compares The Master, Author, Author, and Leon Edel’s biography. She tries to distinguish the different way of characterization of Henry James in biography and novel. In addition, she analyzes the completely reception of the three works. Similarly, Zhao Bi chooses Flaubert’s Parrot to make a comparative study with an aim to differentiate the narrative feature of novel and biography and a study of the reality and fiction in narrative; yet there is confusion in his paper of biographical novel and fiction, which weakens the power of his argument.
