for practicing spoken English. “Lemon Tree” is a good choice for post-listening activity. The activity follows the following procedures: (1) Prepare a list of questions based on the lyrics of the song to guide the activity. (2) Divide the students into groups and give each group one copy of the questions. Let them discuss freely and use their own imagination. Each group should have one group leader to take notes of their discussion, and then make up a story together. (3) Ask each group to read their own story to the whole class. (4) Let the whole class judge which song is the best. Questions for “Lemon Tree”: (1) When did your father warn you not to put your trust in love? (2) Why did he warn you? (3) Did you listen to your father? Why? (4) How did you fall in love? (5) What happened one day? (6) Why did she leave you? How? (7) Did you do anything wrong to her? (8) How did you feel after she had left you? (9)What have you learned from this love affair? Example2: MTV is also a kind of resource that can be made full use of to learning English songs. Recently, MTV is becoming more and more popular. Some good MTV made in English can bring lots of benefits for English learners. As MTV carries lots of information, it is helpful for students to learn foreign history, culture, social life, art, etc., which can be good topics of oral activities .Besides, MTV shows many attracting pictures and different characters, so these questions can be raised for discussion: (1) In the MTV, what places have appeared? (2) In the MTV, how many and what kind of people have appeared? (3) What do you think about the colors of the pictures? How many colors have you found? (4) Do you think the pictures are properly used to tell the story in the song? (5) Do you think the music match the pictures? All these activities may be of big help for improving students spoken English. Once their interest is aroused and their confidence is built, opening the mouth as often as possible to speak English becomes possible. 6. Conclusion English learning is really a long hard process that requires a lot of efforts and techniques. During this process, as we all know, the biggest problem is how to speak fluent and idiomatic English. The similarities between music and spoken English, and the characteristics and advantages of English songs tell us that using English songs to enhance spoken English can be really a not bad choice. From the above analysis, we know how English songs help improve spoken English in many aspects, such as pronunciation, vocabulary, sense of rhythm, etc.. Various themes and rich content of English songs offer a good many topics for the practice of spoken English. All the advantages make us believe that extensive listening and imitating and discussing can bring lots of benefits for the improvement of spoken English. Obviously, it is feasible to make use of English songs to get rid of “Chinese accent”. Feel beautiful English in beautiful melody; practice spoken English by singing aloud---English songs as an aid of improving spoken English will gain more and more attention and win more and more popularity in the near future.
