In this chapter, it is about the literature review of IT workers’ motivation system. In the first aspect, it will review the definitions of knowledge
Motivation, as one of the most important in human resource management, directly and indirectly influences employees’ satisfaction and productivity. In this chapter, it is about the literature review of IT workers’ motivation system. In the first aspect, it will review the definitions of knowledge workers and IT workers. Through the understanding of these terms, it is to explore the boundaries of IT workers and knowledge workers. Secondly, it is the literature review of the theories of motivation. It will firstly review the understanding of motivation, and then it is to review and make a comparison of different motivation theories including hierocracy of needs theory, two-factor theory, goal-setting theory, expectancy theory and McCelland’s theory of needs. Further, it will review employees’ satisfaction. In the final aspect, it is about the literature of the approaches of motivation. It will compare different motivation systems, and it is to find out the advantages and disadvantages of each motivation approach.

3.1The concept understanding of motivation
Motivation is defined as the force including the internal and external to a person that arouses enthusiasm and persistence to pursue a certain course of action. Stone (2002) has the same understanding of motivation and he said that motivation is the driving force by which people achieve their goals. In this argument, the aim of motivation is to reach individual’s goals and organizational goals From the understanding of perspective of behavior management, motivation is a psychological process behaving purpose and direction in the manner of achievement. This purposive manner is the will and action to achieve goals.
The importance of motivation is that high employee motivation can reflect high job performance and satisfaction (www.51lunwen.com ). Thus, organisations use motivation theory to satisfy individual’s needs and stimulate high work performance.
