The English reading span test is designed to detect the English working memorycapacity of the participants. The detailed descriptive statistics for the participants'overall score in the reading span test and the scores in the three branch data in thereading span test~RT (reaction time of accurate judgment), Judgment (number ofcorrect true or false judgment) and Recall (number of accurately recalledsentence-final words) would be conducted in this section.Firstly, the overall score of the reading span test and scores of the threecomponents (RT, Judgment and Recall) are presented respectively in the followingtable. Table 3-1 displayed the descriptive statistics for scores of the RST including theoverall score and scores of the three RST components. The score of the JudgmentAccuracy is measured by the number of correct true-false judgment and the score ofRecall Accuracy is measured by the number of accurately recalled sentence-finalwords. There are 80 sentences in the formal RST. Therefore, the full mark ofJudgment Accuracy and Recall Accuracy is 80. The score of RT is measured inmillisecond. The overall score of RST is the summation of z-scores of the threecomponents (Judgment Accuracy, RT and Recall Accuracy) and the score of RT isadded as negative number.

Conclusion

The present study proposed that the working memory capacity is a goodpredictor of EFL learners' reading comprehension ability. The study is composed of acomputerized English reading span test designed to measure the working memorycapacity of subjects and an English reading comprehension test. Major findings in thepresent study are summarized as follows:
(1) There is a significant correlation between the English working memorycapacity and EFL learners' reading comprehension ability.
(2) The correlation between EFL learners' English working memory ability andtheir English reading comprehension mainly lies in the aspect of their inferential,critical and appreciative comprehension which is related to both the storage and theprocessing tasks of working memory.
