摘要:研究广告的人际功能的实现是具有重要意义的。广告的重要作用和特别的语言特点早己引起众多语言学家的关注与兴趣,然而到目前为止,学术界对广告的研究主要停留在词汇修辞以及句法层面,从语篇层面分析广告的研究无论从数量还是细致程度上都是不够的,从人际意义出发研究香水广告语篇仍然存在很大的发展空间。

proposed in the 1950s,systemic functionalgrammar has been widely applied in various studies such as cognitive linguistics,computational linguistics, education study and literary stylistics. “Functional Grammar aimsto reveal that language is a means of social interaction, based on the position that languagesystem and the forms that make it up are inescapably determined by the uses or functionswhich they serve." (Hu Zhuanglin,2007: 307) In his masterpiece An Introduction toFunctional Grammar, Halliday pointed out that: “In deciding how much ground to try tocover, I have had certain guiding principle in mind. The aim has been to construct a grammarfor purpose of text analysis; one that would make it possible to say sensible and useful thingsabout any text, spoken or written, in modem English." (Halliday 1994:41)Affected by his teacher Firth and Prague School, Halliday attached great importance tocontext of the speech, and given it further development. Inspired by theories of PragueSchool, he proposed the three metafunctions of speech: ideational function, interpersonalfunction and textual function,which people seek to simultaneously fulfill in using language.The three metafunctions are respectively reflected in the clause as representation, exchangeand message. And they embody some sub-systems such as transitivity, voice, polarity, mood,modality, key, theme, information, cohesion and so on. The three metafunctions work at thesame time and a certain discourse is inevitably possible to be analyzed in many ways at thesame time. In light of advertisements of products or service, they are expected to performmany tasks, of which persuading people into buying certain products or service is of thegreatest significance and regarded as the ultimate goal.This paper focuses the study emphasis on analyzing discourse of perfume advertisingfrom the perspective of interpersonal function under the theoretical framework of systemicfunctional grammar. As the name tells us, interpersonal function deals with interpersonalmeaning in discourses and its realization cannot be separated from the exchange between thespeaker and the audience. In light of perfume advertising, such exchange plays significantroles and should not in any way be neglected.


  
  1.2 Purpose and Significance of This study研究目的和意义
  The main purpose of the thesis is to explore how languages in English perfume advertisingrealize their purpose of talking the audience into consuming. This thesis intends to analyzediscourses of English perfume advertising from the perspective of interpersonal functionwithin the system of systemic functional grammar. The study will be focused on thelanguages of English perfume advertising discourses collected from magazines andnewspapers and on television from the perspective of interpersonal function. All these effortsare made to find out how languages used by advertisers in this field helps to achieve thefunctions and objectives of advertising; drawing the audience's attention, arousing theirinterest, provoking their desire and at last realizing its main flinction: leading them toconsumption.
