However, there always was something challenging for me to deal with. I found that I was poor in the vocabulary on the menu, so that I can not record what the customer ordered efficiently and sometimes make mistakes. In addition, I was familiar with neither the British eating habits nor the British dishes, so that it was difficult for me to recommend and describe or even service the meal for customers. And some times it was not easy to pay much attention to some details what I’ve never encountered. So there are really many things for me to improve.
2.2 Work in Kitchen
The work in kitchen is not that easy then that in restaurant. I worked in the positions of chef manager, chef and main course chef. These kind of work were much related to the manage skills, cooperation with staff, and machine used skills which were quit different with the work contacting with customers. Service-type work may not that important while skill-type work should be practiced more.
Some skills were not that difficult because main points in the kitchen were clear: safety and cleanness. So I can remember the chef manager’s responsibilities that checking the temperature and use deadline to make sure that all the foods were fresh and safe to eat, and cleaning hands now and then.
While, I still feel frustrated with many problems, there was much challenging in the kitchen then in the restaurant for me. The main problem and also the serious one is that I always got hurt. I always forgot something was hot, especially then it was busy. Then, it’s also difficult for me to distinguish different tools and vegetables, and I was not clear with which material was used for what. However, I was very lucky that, under the help of other staff, I could do better then the beginning finally. So I realized that the teamwork is essential in the work, and every member is very important.
3. Reasons for the Existing Of Challenging and Easy Experiences
Then I am thinking about why there exist such challenging and easy experiences for me? Some reasons may explain this.
First of all, as a student, I only paid attention to theoretic knowledge but had little chance to put what I have learned into practice. However sometimes realistic may not so consistent with the theory, and there are many unexpected situations coming forth. So no one can deal very thing well just by theory knowledge while without practice experience. On the other hand, it can be also used to explain why I can easily understand standard service tips which need much more comprehensive abilities but little practice experience.
Secondly, my inherent abilities help me behave well in some aspects, while bad in some other aspects. Since I am an outgoing person, I feel it’s exciting to communicate with or even persuade customers, while it’s frustrated and tired to do the mechanical skillful work in kitchen. However, during the operation in Lakeside, I realized that no matter what a person am I, the two aspects abilities are needed for me to be good hotel manager.
Last but not least, my habits of thinking and doing things are very essential factors which influence the challenging and easy experiences for me. My habit of observing others helps me to recognize the potential customers through their behaviors. While my habit of neglecting details lead
