摘要:In order to be a good specification translator, one must first acquire enough technical knowledge of the target field. Basic technical knowledge background plays an important role in specification translation and it is the premise and guarantee of a good translation work.
ch is a common word in western countries, but it is scarcely used in China. It is a unit of length in the U.S. Customary and British Imperial systems, equal to 1/12 of a foot (2.54 centimeters). In China, people are more used to centimeters. As a result, inch is not directly translated into “英寸” but “2.54 公分”. In this way, the cultural problem is successfully removed, and the Chinese reader can easily follow the EST specification to install the valve.
In this case, we can see that these three methods of EST translation are all applied. The translated text realizes the translation purposes and achieves the intended functions of the target text, which means a user can install valve correctly by reading the EST specification.
V. Conclusion
The importance of EST specification translation becomes more and more evident with the economic globalization. Any corporation that wants to open the oversea market or enhances their business abroad should pay enough attention to specification translation, since a lame specification version makes no sense to consumers, although the product maybe excellent
Based on the Skopos theory, this thesis tries to study the translation of EST specifications, to find the appropriate translation strategy, principles and methods. I hope the finding of this thesis would be helpful and would work as a general guide for EST specification translation.

Before translation, a translator needs to get the purposes of the original writer from the source text first, and try to predict the potential wants of the consumers. Bear these purposes and wants in mind while doing the translation work, choosing words, expressions and sentences which are faithful and appropriate enough to the source specification and easily/culturally acceptable to the consumers.
