scholars have done some research onDavid Malouf and some of his works. For instance, a doctoral dissertation, AustralianHomeland Construction in David Malouf’s Novels written by Sun Yilei, gives a relevantinterpretation and analysis on parts of David Malouf's works with the “homeconstruction” as the theme and basic point. According to some other research andcomments, it is revealed that most of David Malouf’s works mainly present thesignificant themes about European traditions and the new world, the past and thepresent, etc., which refers to the antagonism and conflict between different races, generations and cultures. His novels mainly describe the marginal figures outside themainstream society, making a style presented as a kind of tranquil poetic expressionwith a skill full of the author’s sedulous effort for the perfection in art, which gives thereader an elegance.

Chapter Four Case Study

4.1 Vocabulary Translation
For English-Chinese translation, when the words in the target language can befound in line with the meaning of the original, they can be translated literally with thecorresponding meaning. If there is no corresponding expression in the target languageand no appropriate meaning in the dictionary, the words cannot be mechanicallytranslated in the literal way. According to the context and the principle of semanticequivalence, It requires the author to use some translation techniques to deal with theproblems, and eventually make the translation correctly express the original meaning.Amplification and Omission are two common techniques of accommodation in theprocess of translation. No matter which one is used, the meaning in the translatedlanguage should keep the same as that of the original language.(Sun Zhili, Zhou Ye,2014:85)English and Chinese are two different language systems with different linguisticfeatures. In English-Chinese translation, if the literal translation is adopted, it is possiblethat the information in the translated version is not clear and proper; meanwhile, therelation of each part in the translation is ambiguous and the translation statement isincomplete. Thus, the translation technique of amplification is usually used tosupplement the information that is hided or omitted literally in the original text, andthen the meaning of the translated text will be clear and the sentences can be readsmoothly.

Conclusion

Through the practice of the project and the completion of the translation, Theauthor has a more profound understanding of translation. Translation is not only asimply literal conversion. A British translator, Alexander Fraser Tytler, has proposedthree translation principles. The first is that the translation should give a complete ideaof the original language. The second is that the style and method of writing should be ofthe same nature as the original language. The third one is that t论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
