Furthermore with the data collected from PTA Annual reports I have managed to compute the Average number of cellular subscriber that joined the cellular companies in Pakistan during the period of 2006-2010 which has been demonstrated in figure 5.7 shown below.
It can be comprehended from the figure that Mobilink managed to attract most customers with an average of 4.9 million customers annually throughout 2006-2010, followed by Telenor that engrossed approximately 4.5 million customers annually whereas Ufone occupied around 3.3 million customers annually during a span of 5 years. Additionally I have also evaluated that on this basis approximately 3.46 million customers will join 3G market annually considering the fact that customers will gradually shift from their current 2G network to 3G (UMTS) and bearing in mind the spending power and demographics of Pakistan. Moreover on the basis of Leader’s (Mobilink & Telenor) and Follower’s (UFONE) market share with respect to 3G market, it has been estimated that follower will experience a net addition of approximately 864,000 subscribers annually in 3G market whereas due to the pre-emptive advantage, the leader will manage to attract approximately 2.6 million cellular subscribers annually.
Finally on the basis of prediction made by PTA that around 25% of cellular subscribers in Pakistan will shift from their 2G network to revolutionary 3G (UMTS) technology followed by its launched, I have managed to forecast total expected subscribers possessed by the 3G market of Pakistan from 2011-2020. Based on my analysis, it can be comprehended that if 3G is launched in 2011 then approximately 24.5 million customers will join in its opening year shifting from their 2G network and in ten years time that is 2020, the 3G market will possess approximately 55.6 million customers which has been demonstrated in figure 5.8 shown below.
ARPU:
Earlier on the cellular companies in Pakistan managed to earn noteworthy ARPU, however as the competition increased within the cellular industry, the cellular companies began to lower their tariff drastically, which in turn resulted in ARPU declining sharply. The other reason for the fall of ARPU was considered to be global trend and financial crisis which became hindrance for cellular companies in Pakistan to raise significant amount of revenues.
