In this research, 50 students take part in the experiment and 50 valid data were finally collected from 50 participants. Here are the descriptive statistic result and the paired sample of CT disposition from pre-test and post-test.

5.1 Major Findings

The significance of critical thinking (CT) has long been recognized all over the world. Recently, as CT has been listed as a part of English Core Competences, it has received an increasing amount of attention in China. However, plenty of studies show that there is a lack of CT in Chinese students, and more scholars have been studying the way to cultivate students’ CT. Hence, the present study attempts to explore the effects of literature reading teaching on senior high students’ CT and the teaching of literature reading takes discourse-analysis based teaching mode. 

Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory-Chinese Version is used to evaluate students’ CT sub-dispositions before and after the experiment. Qualitative Florida Scale for Critical Thinking Skills and two English writing tests are employed to measure students’ CT sub-skills. Finally, four students are chosen to have an interview. In this three-month experiment, 50 senior high students are chosen as the research subjects. At the end of the experiment, the collected data are analyzed by SPSS 20. 

Seen from the results of the experiment, literature reading teaching has been proved beneficial to the improvement of students’ CT dispositions and skills For one thing, as to CT sub-dispositions, six out of seven, namely truth-seeking, open-mindedness, self-confidence, analyticity, inquisitiveness and systematicity dispositions, have demonstrated an obvious improvement except that maturity disposition shows little sign of improvement.
