摘要:本文是一篇初中英语教学论文,笔者经过十周的POA阅读教学实验,学生的英语阅读动机发生了显著的变化。首先,实验后学生的整体阅读动机显著提高。这与王楠(2014)之前的研究结果一致。

本文是一篇初中英语教学论文,笔通过为期两个月的初中英语教学实验和分析研究数据,我们可以看到,参加教学实验的学生的英语阅读动机和阅读成绩都得到了显著的提高。
Chapter One Introduction

1.1 Background of the Research

Reading, as an important way of language input, plays an important role inimproving our comprehensive language abilities. Therefore, English reading isessential to the process of English learning in junior middle school. The cultivation ofreading ability can help students obtain information more widely, expand theirhorizons and develop humanistic quality, enhance the ability to analyze and judgethings, and promote the comprehensive application of language. English reading is anecessary skill for second language learners.

In teaching of English reading, what the teachers need to do is not only presentstudents with words and phrases, and then test whether students master these wordsand phrases through several questions related to the article, but also motivate studentsto participate in the English reading and improve their English reading comprehensionand application ability.

However, in middle school, the current situation of English reading teaching stillneeds to be improved. The teaching contents are not so attractive for students, andcannot arouse students’ interest. So students do not enjoy the reading process, whichis important for them to accumulate knowledge and skills. For teaching methods, onthe one hand, the teaching is still mainly about the explanation of words and sentencestructure, and the introduction of substantive knowledge of the article along with thecombination of the general context and the sublimation of moral emotions are notsufficient; on the other hand, there is phenomenon of separation of learning and using.This will not only make students less motivated in English reading, but also hampertheir confidence and interest in English learning. Therefore, more attention should bepaid to teaching methods and teachers should adopt more effective teaching method totruly enhance students’ performance and English reading skills.

1.2 Significance of The Research

1.2.1 Theoretical Significance

In recent years, POA research has focused on applying POA to specific areas ofteaching, such as speaking, reading, listening, and writing. However, previous studiesmainly focused on English listening, writing and vocabulary learning, and paid littleattention to reading teaching. The subjects of research are mainly about college students, less studies are conducted on middle school students. Therefore, this studyapplies POA to junior middle school English reading teaching to analyze the influenceof POA on students’ reading performance and reading motivation. This study willbroaden the scope of POA research and verify the effectiveness of POA.

1.2.2 Practical Significance

This study will provide some insights for teachers to adopt production-orientedteaching method in English reading teaching. By using POA teaching mode, teachers’reading teaching can greatly improve students' participation and enthusiasm in theprocess of trying to output, so as to improve teaching efficiency and teachingeffectiveness.

For students, POA can stimulate their desire to learn English, and make themrealize their shortcomings in English reading.
