4.1 English and Luoyang Dialect Fricative Patterns
English and Luoyang dialect belong to two different language families, and many differences certainly exist in the two sound systems. The similarities and differences between English fricatives and Luoyang dialect fricatives are clearly shown by comparing and analyzing the English fricative pattern and Luoyang dialect fricative pattern.
4.1.1 English Fricative Pattern
Nine English fricatives are classified according to the place of articulation and the vibration of vocal folds. In terms of the place of articulation, [f] and [v] are a group of labiodental fricatives, [ɵ] and [ð] are dental fricatives, [s] and [z] are a group of alveolar fricatives, [ʃ] and [ʒ] are a group of palato-alveolar fricatives, and sound [h] is a glottal fricative. In terms of the vibration of vocal folds, fricatives that are pronounced with the vocal fold vibrating are called voiced fricatives, and fricatives that do not vibrate with the vocal fold are called voiceless fricatives. In English fricatives, [f][s][ʃ][ɵ] and [h] are classified as voiceless fricatives, while [z][ð][ʒ] and [v] as voiced fricatives.
In this experiment, two American native speakers are asked to read each word in English materials twice, and the recordings are placed in software Mini Speech Lab for data extraction. The spectral center of gravity value and degree of dispersion value of each fricative are entered into an Excel sheet, and a final average of all fricatives are obtained after averaging all data recorded for each fricative, and the final average of all fricatives are calculated in the same way. According to formulas of relativization and normalization, the G and D values of each fricative are calculated. The G value represents the spectral center of gravity after relativization and normalization; and the D value represents the degree of dispersion after relativization and normalization. The mean spectral center of gravity and mean degree of dispersion values for the two American native speakers, as well as their G and D values, are presented in Table 4-1.

Under the guidance of fricative pattern theory and language transfer theory, the English fricative pronunciation characteristics of native speakers and junior middle school students in Luoyang area are analyzed.
