Assessment INFORMATION
This section contains important information regarding the rules for
Assessment. You can also see a summary of the specific instructions for this module’s assessments on the Moodle page (Assessment Briefs)
Submission of your assessments
All work should be clearly marked with your matriculation number, programme and module details. A copy of the work should be retained in case of loss. All work must be original and fully referenced as such – please see programme
handbook and Moodle page for guidance on plagiarism. Work should be written in the 3rd person and in formal English – please see the School Referencing Guide (on Moodle) if required.
All work must be handed in on time. Work handed in late, after the submission deadline, can only receive a maximum mark of P1, unless an extension has been previously agreed in advance with the module leader (see details on extension requests below). If work is submitted more than 7 days after the due date it will be deemed to have failed that submission attempt and will be marked as a second attempt. You only have TWO attempts at each assessment. If you fail to achieve a pass at the first diet then you will only have one further attempt to pass the assessment. Reworks of failed submissions can only receive a maximum of P1.
Turnitin®
As well as submitting a hard copy of your coursework to room 1/53, an electronic copy should also be uploaded into the Turnitin® drop-box on Moodle.
Turnitin® is a software programme, which compares your submitted work with a huge database of published material such as websites, journals, books, newspapers etc. This software checks the originality of your work. The Turnitin® drop-box is set to allow you to submit multiple submissions up until the assessment due date. This allows you to overwrite previous submissions until the due date of the assessment. This gives you the opportunity to check drafts of your assessment in advance and make changes, if necessary. Guidance on interpreting Turnitin reports is available on the study support pages of the Student Portal.
Extension requests
We understand that sometimes exceptional circumstances can affect your ability to submit on time. Extensions of up to one week may be granted for exceptional circumstances, and requests should be made in advance to the module leader as early as possible.
However, please note that what is considered an ‘exceptional circumstance’ does NOT include the following: ‘pressure of work’, ‘having lots of assessments to do’ or ‘my computer crashed on the day of the assessment’. These are not considered valid reasons for being given an extension. You have been given details of all your assessments weeks in advance. Time management and prioritisation are important skills that you are expected to develop at university. Therefore, begin preparation for your assessments early and do not leave them all until the final week! Also I would advise you to save more than one copy of your assessment, and back up all your work on a regular basis.
Finally, extensions should be asked for as far in advance as
