y is an Information Age as well as a Knowledge Economy Age. Therapid development and wide application of computers offers both great challenges andopportunities for secondary vocational education. Applying Multimedia Technologyinto English teaching is the inevitable trend. The research is expected to provide someassistance to teachers attempting to optimally combine their teaching with the powerof the Information Technology.


Chapter 2   Literature review


2.1 The Understanding and Definitions of Multimedia Technology
The term of Multimedia was introduced as early as in the 1960s. However, thereis no universal accepted definition of Multimedia and Multimedia technology. Therehave been many definitions of Multimedia Technology defined by domestic andinternational educational experts from different angles. The understanding ofMultimedia technology is in the continuous deepening with the development ofeducational practice. At present, the following understandings of MultimediaTechnology attract our attention:
A. Multimedia Technology is used for teaching application tools. This is theearliest and the most typical understanding. Multimedia Technology is equal toteaching tools, and assists teaching. Such as computer, projectors, television, soundrecorder, video, etc.
B. Multimedia Technology is a new way of teaching. It is not just the neweducational tools, the new method of education, the new delivery form of teachingcontent. It is a new teaching way that includes all of the above,
C. Multimedia Technology is a congregation of all the technical means andmethods in the educational activities including the materialized form of technologyand intellectual form of technology.
D. Multimedia Technology a series of theories and practices to facilitate thedesigning, development, utilization, management and evaluation of the teachingprocess and resources. This is the definition proposed by U.S. Association ofEducational Communication and Technology in 1994, and is accustomed to be calledAECT 94 definition. It has a great influence in our country.
