Abstract
This article seeks to identify the origin, contents, general characteristics, achievements, influences of three important projects in the U.S.
Science curriculum reform since 1980s: Project 2061, National Science
Education Standards and U.S. Education Strategy 2000, and makes suggestions for China’s science curriculum reform. It is hoped that it will lead China’s science education to a greater competitive advantage. Content analysis was used to analyze the information from news, literatures in order to determine three waves in the U.S. science curriculum reform since the WWⅡ as well as the relevant characteristics of the three famous projects.
The results show that China’s science curriculum reform should take the achievements of the U.S. three reform projects for
Reference, on basis of its own actual situation to implement the science curriculum reform from the following four aspects: making full use of the government’ guidance, giving attention to both reality and ideality of curriculum standard, eliminating the uncoordinated situation and setting up ethics type evaluation system.
These suggestions might provide Chinese government with some valuable hints for science curriculum reform, and it might benefit Chinese middle-schools’ self-improvement. Other studies should be compared Chinese situation and
history of science teaching with the U.S. for an in-depth research.
