Children narrative story – Possum Magic written by Man Fox

Possum Magic is written by the famous Australian children’s literature author, Men Fox.  The two main story charactors are Hush and Grandma Poss who are trying to find to foods to make Hush visible again. In the story, it also includes many Australian wildlife animals to represent in the story. Men fox uses rhyme, repetition and alliteration during the whole story in order to make the story interesting and easy for young children to understand. Apart from that, she used the understandability vocabularies to replace the overwhelming ones for little children. The illustrator, Julia Vivas, used watercolor washes with some spatter to illustrate the story and the characters. Each of the character has his/her own individual personality (R.Simpson, 2010). According to this book review (My book centre), it recommended that Possum Magic is suitable for the ages of 4-6 young children. Through this picture book, children are not only having a great pleasure to read along the book with an educator, it provides children with a great opportunity to explore and learn a focus topic about Australian native animals. Setting up a learning corner, Australian native animals’ picture aids, toys and bush background scenes, in the classroom is to enhance children’s curiosity and exploration about this topic with some support and guiding with the educator.
