Peripheral locations allow translators to manipulate text in various ways by changing, enlarging or reducing texts, or by deleting or adding texts(Shavit 112).

Oittinen is one of the leading figures in translation studies of picture books and children's literature. Her book Translating for Children, published in 2002, is still a landmark work in translation  studies  for  children.  The  book  systematically  sorts  out  the  translation  studies  of picture  books,  with  particular  emphasis  on  the  interaction  between  vision,  sound  and rhythm(Oittinen 2002).Gillian Lathey studied the impact of the transition from the present to the  past  tense  when  translating  picture  books  into  English,  such  as  the  loss  of  narrative intimacy(Lathey 2003).
