Chapter Five RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
5.1 Chinese Students’ Vowel Production
In a comprehensive analysis of Chinese students’ vowel production from theperspective of spectral data, the characteristics of Chinese students’ Chinese, Englishand Russian pronunciation are discussed in this part, and whether there are differencesbetween Chinese students’ Russian pronunciation and standard Russian pronunciationis concluded.
The pronunciation characteristics of vowels are closely related to formants, anddifferent vowels have significant differences in formants, which can be used todistinguish different vowels. Besides, the main acoustic characteristics of vowels aredetermined by their F1 and F2. Therefore, this paper only analyzes the F1 and F2parameters in the extracted acoustic parameters, compares the F1 and F2 data accordingto the vowel chart. The vowel chart is basically corresponding to the physiologicaltongue position (Joos, 1948). The higher the value of F1 is, the lower the tongueposition of vowels is. The higher the value of F2 is, the more forward the tongue position of vowels is. The corresponding position of each vowel in the vowel chart isdetermined by the mean value of formants extracted from all samples.
Chapter Six CONCLUSION
6.1 Major Findings
The purpose of this study is to investigate the possible phonetic transfer from L1(Chinese) and L2 (English) to L3 (Russian). This paper was the empirical researchbased on relevant theories. The questionnaire was conducted to explore Chineselearners’ language background. A production experiment was followed to explorewhether there was any phonetic transfer among Chinese, English and Russian. Based onthe research questions, research findings are answered as follows:
1. Phonetic transfer of L1 (Chinese) and L2 (English) occurred when Chinesestudents acquired L3 (Russian).
According to the comparison of formants and the results of one-sample t-test, itcould be concluded that there was a significant difference between Chinese students’Russian pronunciation and standard Russian. When Chinese students acquired Russianvowels, errors occurred in language production. Chinese students’ pronunciations ofRussian /a/, /o/, /u/, /ɛ/ had significant differences with native Russian speakers in F1and F2 (p < 0.05). The learners’ pronunciation of /a/ was more forward and downwardthan that of native speakers. The pronunciation of /o/ was higher and more backwardthan native speakers. The pronunciations of /u/ and /ɛ/ were both more downward andmore forward. Although there was no significant difference in the pronunciation of /i/on the F1 (p > 0.05), there was a significant difference in F2 (p < 0.05). Therefore, onthe whole, the pronunciation of /i/ was still different from that of standard Russian /i/.The 本论文由英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写,英语论文代写,代写论文,代写英语论文,代写留学生论文,代写英文论文,留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
