4.1 Descriptive Statistics
Descriptive statistics, which quantitatively summarize the features of the data set, are presented. The descriptive statistics for L2 WTC, language mindset, L2 communication anxiety and L2 learning motivation, including minimum (Min), maximum (Max), mean, and standard deviation (SD), are shown in Table 4.1. The mean score can demonstrate the central tendency of the participants’ responses. The standard deviation shows how the set of scores ranges around the mean value.
Language mindset was measured by a six-point scale, while L2 WTC, L2 class anxiety, and L2 learning motivation were measured by four-point scales. To enable direct horizontal comparison between the variables, the participants’ responses to the six-point Language Mindset Scale were converted to four points through SPSS Statistics 26.0.

5.1 Major Findings of the Research
The present study is centered upon senior high school students’ L2 WTC in English class. The researcher focuses on students’ trait L2 WTC, introduces language mindset as an influencing variable, and proposes L2 learning motivation and L2 class anxiety as two mediators between L2 WTC and language mindset. The study mainly consists of two steps, questionnaire survey and language mindset manipulation, and aims to answer three research questions.
The first objective of the research is to examine the current situation of senior high school students’ average level of willingness to communicate verbally in English in English class at school. Based on 216 participants’ self-reports collected by the present study, the conclusion can be drawn that senior high school students have a rather satisfying level of L2 WTC on average. They are probably willing, rather than unwilling, to communicate in English class under most circumstances. But some students respond with extremely low level of L2 WTC, which is largely due to personal factors, instead of situational factors, as the scale measures trait-like WTC.
