Chapter Five Results and Discussions 

In  this  chapter,  the  author  tries  to  answer  the  research  questions  put  forward before by conducting both quantitative and qualitative analyses. Quantitative analysis is  applied  to  figure  out  the  marked  and  unmarked  characteristics  of  Chinese  English learners  and  native  speakers  in  expressing  negation.  And  qualitative  analysis  mainly deals with the possible factors that account for the discrepancies in the use of negation between Chinese English learners and English native speakers.  

5.1 Lexical Features of Negation in WECCL and LOCNESS

The  primary  purpose  of  this  section  is  to  figure  out  the  general  characteristics and preference modes in  conveying negative statements  by Chinese English  learners and  native  English  speakers  at  the  lexical  level.  Both  unmarked  and  marked expressions of negation will be listed and calculated.In  this  part,  the  author  will  illustrate  the  unmarked  expressions  of  negation  at lexical  level  in  the two corpora WECCL  and  LOCNESS.
