Chinese Xiangpin and the story of Chinese people’s embodied experience and cognition nicely and at great length. Moreover, according to the Fifth Plenum of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, it is necessary to improve the country’s cultural soft power, strengthen cultural self-confidence, further enhance the influence of Chinese culture, and build a country with a strong socialist culture (The Communiqué of the Fifth Plenum of the Nineteenth Central Committee of the CPC, 2020). Therefore, while responding to the Fifth Plenum of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, this paper, to a certain extent, promotes the prosperity and development of Chinese Xiangpin culture and industry, enhances the influence of Chinese culture, and also strengthens cultural self-confidence. 

From a theoretical point of view, cognitive linguistics believes that language comes from interactive experience and cognitive processing of the real world (Wang Yin, 2020: 120), and the Event-Domain Cognitive Model can well explain the phenomenon of object naming (Wang Yin, 2007 :238). Therefore, through the detailed explanation of the cognitive process of Xiangpin name construction, by using the core concept of “reality-cognition-language” and the ECM in CL, the cognitive process model of Xiangpin name construction is built, and the motivation and rules of the generation of names (especially the naming of Xiangpin) are further explained reasonably. In this way, the research on the cognitive mechanism of naming will be deepened, and the scope of naming research topics will be broadened to some extent.

Chapter Two Literature Review

2.1  Research on Naming of the Ancient Chinese in the Pre-Qin Period

“Relevant research on the naming of the Ancient Chinese in the Pre-Qin period” is mainly carried out around the “debate of name and entity”. At that time, there have been relevant works on the issue of name and reality, among which Confucianism, Legalists, the School of Names, Mohism, and Taoism have attracted attention. For example, on one hand, Confucianism: Since Confucius began to pay special attention to the issue of names and facts, and put forward the “Rectification of Name Theory” to explain the importance of “name” as a symbol that must properly explain the “facts”. Then Xunzi dialectically explained the relationship between “name” and “fact” with “Zhengming Pian”(正名篇) and systematically put forward the viewpoint of “names are made to refer to the entity” and “the actual thing will be known as soon as a name is heard.” (Wang Baihua, 1998; Liu Guancai, 2011; Cao Feng, 2015), which can reflect the complex relationship between name and entity. And this also includes both the conventional relationship and the iconic relationship of embodied cognitivity(Wang Yin, 2020), which promotes further development of practical research. On the other hand, the Taoist school represented by Mozi (468 BC-376 BC) opposed the idealist “Rectification of Names”, which uses “names” to determine “realities”. He advocated the “entity viewpoints” of using “realities” to determine “names” and divided it into three categories according to the “real situation”: “dá míng(达名), lèi míng(类名) and sī míng(私名)”.
