Olive Kitteridge and Olive, Again depict the stories of multiple families living in Crosby, Maine, USA. As family fictions, each story in the two collections of short stories focuses on the relations between family members, presenting readers with various family conflicts. Furthermore, these two collections of short stories reflect the social problems of the 1960s by depicting family conflicts, and cause people to ponder on the connection between family and society. In this sense, Olive Kitteridge and Olive, Again can be considered as realistic fictions. A literary study of these two collections of short stories will not only enrich the study of American literature, but also contribute to the study of American social history and culture.
