关键词:《最蓝的眼睛》三种话语的分析Three Kinds of DiscoursesThe Bluest Eye外国文学研究

摘要:The description of the black community in The Bluest Eye, displays some external factors from the side of view, such as how the blacks are victimized in the white society, how the white cultural impacts get to influence the black family and community, and so on.

Morrison is highly praised for her regarding herself as a writer with a racial or cultural identity. Her works are all centered on black characters and communities, giving the readers a completely new view of them, and her first novel The Bluest Eye reflects her own perception and interpretation about the black. Three kinds of discourses in The Bluest Eye— the self-denial of the black, the racist discourse and the constructive discourse of the black, are used to reveal the purposes of Morrison’s writing— call for an accurate recognition of the black.

 I. Toni Morrison, the First African American to Win the Nobel Prize in Literature
 1.1 Toni Morrison’s Life
Toni Morrison, one of the most shining stars in the black American literary circle, is the first black female winner of the Nobel Prize for literature. Toni Morrison was born in Chloe Anthony Wofford in 1931 in Lorain, Ohio, a small Midwestern steel-mill town, which she often used as the setting of her earlier novels (such as the setting for The Bluest Eye) because in Morrison’s view, “Ohio is a curious juxtapositions of what was ideal in this country and what was base. It was also a Mecca for black people; they came to the mills and plants because Ohio offered the possibility of a good life, the possibility of freedom, even though there some terrible obstacles. Ohio also offers an escape from stereotyped black settings. It is neither plantation nor ghetto”.(Wang Shouren and Wu Xinyun, 1999: 43) In such a place, she spent about 60 percent of her time hiding, quietly observing all kinds of people—whites and blacks around her and strengthening her sense of self by the cohesiveness of her community. From her parents, George and Rahmah Willis Wofford, southern migrants who left from the deep south in search of improved social, political, educational, and economic opportunities for their family, Morrison learns many everlasting lessons, first among which is the importance of a black’s personal identity and values—a lesson that Morrison has passed on to the characters in her novel. Her Grandmother, Ardelia Willis, produced greatest impact on Morrison during her childhood, acquainting her with the Black lore that now permeates her creative writing. This family background, with an ambience of historical and social consciousness, mysticism, craftsmanship, and a love of work helped to fashion Toni Morrison into an excellent artist.
As a black female writer, Toni Morrison roots her works deeply in the black culture on the one hand, and focuses on her black womanhood through revealing the black women’s sufferings, pains and struggles on the other hand. Through her writing, Morrison offers a penetrating look at the lives of African Americans and scrutinizes the influence of the mainstream culture, especially on the lives of African-American women.
Author of some bestselling, critically acclaimed novels—The Bluest Eye (1970), Sula (1973), Song of Solomam (1977), Tar Baby (1981), Jazz (1992)and Paradise (1998), Toni Morrison was awarded the 1993 Nobel Prize for Literature, becoming the first African-American woman to win the award. She is listed into the elite category of authors who have created not only numerous novels, but also novels that play an important part in the progression of literature. She had become one of the most important writers of the 20th century. Often compared to another Author论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
