by leaving home toNew York. However, this does not take effect. At last, Laurie expresses his love to her. As Jo thinks she knows herself better than Laurie knows himself, she still refuses him.

This is an unusual behaviour in the 19th century American, because women at that time prefer to marry a rich man to have a coszy and sumptuous life. Jo refuses to be a conventional wife who must devote herself to the domestic duty and be totally dependent on her rich husband. She prefers to keep being individual and independent. As time goes on, Jo starts to think about her life. She marries Professor Bhar, a professor who is poor in money but rich in knowledge and spirit. She finally knows to control herself and learns to comprise between ideality and reality ( He Xiaoying, 2011: 151). After marriage, they found a school to look after her children and poor boys in the house left by Aunt March. Jo helps Professor Bhar to teach student, and the happy days offer Jo more and better experiences and examples for her writing. Jo combines her marriage and literary pursuit in the best way, and keeps her individualism.

3.2 Feminist Reform of Amy

Amy is the youngest girl in the family, she is raised with a lot of warm love. Every time when she is in trouble, everyone in the family tries to give her advices and help her. But Amy a girl with ideas, when sisters give her suggestions or advices, she tries to find the best way to solve problems, and develops her own style.

Mrs. Chester’s fair is an elegant party, when Amy is invited to attend but Jo is not, she considers it a great honor to take a table. She uses her creative mind to decorate the table, her talent and taste are duly complimented by the offer of the art table. She exerts herself to prepare and secure appropriate and valuable contributions to it, and her excellent work entirely eclipses that of Mrs. Chester’s daughters’. However, out of jealous, Mrs. Chester asks Amy to move the table away to a farther corner, so that her daughters’ tables can become the focus. Upon knowing this unfair affair, Jo gets angry and even advises her to take away all her things from the fair. Feeling disappointed, Amy still thinks it’s a bad idea, she makes her mind to settle in by herself in her own way. She is confident that she can settle the problem, and determines to conquer her enemy by kindness. Amy does as the hostess asks, finally Mrs. Chester and the girls know they are wrong, and Amy forgives them generously. Virtue is the reward to Amy, she defeats the natural temptation to resent and retaliate, and improves her spirit and soul by far away from the earthly corruption, and learns to be a girl with opinion (He Xiaoying, 2011: 150).

Amy’s feminist spirit mainly reflects in her pursuit for art, she tries to keep her individualism and shows her virtue of self-assertion and self-reliance in the process. To realize her dream, she spends much time on drawing, and shows her promising taste and skill (Sun Wen, 2007:45).

She falls to painting with undiminished ardor, she perseveres in spite of all obstacles, failures, and discouragements, firmly believes that in time she should do something worthy to be call “high art”. When Aunt Carol decides to take her toEurope, she knows it is a chance to develop her artistic talent, and thinks that it isn’t a mere pleasure trip for her.
