s "Dey put chains on us an` put us on a stan` as high as dis po`ch,--twenty foot high,--an` all de people stood around`, crowds an` crowds, An` dey `d come up dah an` look at us all roun`, an` squeeze our arm, an` make us git up an` walk'. And they( slaves) have to listen to harsh words them whites to say ‘This one too old',` or `this one lame,` or `This one don`t amount to much.` Her husband was sold and taken away from her the same as her children, she begun to wail which provoke sudden hate in slave- traders and was told to shut up her blubbering,` an` hit her ‘de mouf wid his han`'.

The most touching moment and the most desperate moment is when her little Henry was taken away she grabbed him close up to her breast she was bold enough to say `You shan`t take him away,` she says `I`ll kill de man dat tetches him!` But little Henry says such words as `I will to run away, and then I work an` buy your freedom.` Aunt Rachel tried to stop them, alone against the whole system, but could not. Her old man was gone, all her seven children were gone six of them she has not seen up to these days she recalls the events taking place ‘twenty-two year ago las` Easter'.

The paragraph on slave market points out to suppression, fatality, misery of African American of those times, they were just ‘tangible movable property' when slaves were to be counted as possessions, just as are flocks and herds, gold and silver. The manner how they were exhibited on high stand and crowd of people would look up and examine them just like animals or goods saying ‘oh this too old this too lame this worth nothing' etc. This unbearable pain, fatality suppression that you are not humans is still strong in African American memory or even heart. As a consequence Aunt Rachel ironically says no, Misto C----, I hain't had no trouble. An' no joy!'at the end of the story.Further she tells about her new master ‘a Confedrit colonel' in South and she ‘was his family's cook', but when the war amongst South and North spread out she finds herself alone until North Army reached the South.

When she finds herself amongst friends her mind begins to wander, her mind is occupied with an idea to find Henry, and she would do anything to see his face once again. A long thirteen years had passed since she last saw her little Henry, but she always had a place form him in her heart. While describing Henry's physical appearance to the officer, she is questioned ‘how long sence you los` him?` an` I say, `Thirteen year.` Den de Gen`l say, `He would n`t be little no mo`, now--he`s a man!`.

At that very moment, she accounts that she has never thought about him growing big he always to be small kid in her mind. The paragraph shows her illusion e.g. illusion of freedom and of happy ending since her expectation is that Henry ‘I`s gwyne to fine my ole mammy, less`n she`s dead.`

Aunt Rachel deep in her heart has the hope to see her son again. That night in her house ‘comes a whole plattoon f`m a nigger ridgment (African American soldier regiment) and they have ‘a big sojer ball; de sojers dah at Newbern was always havin` balls an` carryin` on.' Concerning historical background, ‘more than 200,000 free and enslaved blacks joined the effort to b论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
