5.1 Major Findings of This Study


A few findings of this research will be illustrated in the following

In the first, senior high school students had better not use English-only in EFLclass. Chinese or other languages should be used as a scaffolding for better teachingefficiency. Because senior high school students in this research use Chinese mandarin,local Chinese dialect and ethnic language in EFL class rather than English-only inclass. They use English or Chinese to answer their English teacher’s questions in EFLclass; they apply English, Chinese, local Chinese dialect etc. to discuss Englishquestions with classmates; when they cannot express themselves completely throughTL (English), they will choose Chinese mostly. This just as Catherine and Claudia(2015) believed that translanguagng practices can develop students’ bilingualacademic repertoires, breaking the monopoly of English as the only language ofacademia in sciences as a field. It is as Canagarajah (1999), encouraging to answerquestions in L1, the teacher is able to ensure the lesson relates well to the culturalbackground of the learners. And Garcia and Sylvan (2011, pp. 393-394) said thatstudents depend on one another to share their experiences, knowledge, perspectiveand understandings of the text, so they teach each other integrated use oftranslanguaging to discuss. To complete their English learning tasks and take notesbetter in EFL class, they will use Chinese, English etc. About their attitude tolanguage use in English class, they also insist that Chinese and English that isbilingual languages should be used in EFL class. Most of students agree to use bothEnglish and Chinese for teacher and themselves and think it is beneficial for English learning in EFL class.
