Executive Summary

This report aims at analysing the source methods of MacDonald to maintain a sustained development of the company’s supply chain. It is concluded in this report that the use of diversified source methods is one key element of the successful management of MacDonald’s business in the targeted market of China. The source methods summarized in this report includes local sourcing, global sourcing, the use of distribution centres, sole and dependent suppliers https://www.51lunwen.org/humanresource/2012/0313/1527545704.html and the use of E-procurement according to the local market conditions. These methods are chosen by the company according to the actual situation of the supply of different raw materials in China. In order to better explain the necessity of MacDonald’s source strategy in China, the author also tries to refer the special market condition of China to the adoption of the supply chain management of the company. Based on the analysis, some policy recommendations are provided at the end of this report.

1. Company Background
MacDonald is one of the leading snack food chain stores in the world today and the company owns more than thirty thousand food chains on the whole globe. In China, MacDonald has opened stores in almost all the major cities and it needs a complex system of suppliers in the whole country to maintain such a big scope of business. The suppliers of MacDonald’s targeted market of China are scattered in the vast territory of the country (Staff Training and Motivation at McDonalds, 2010). Every day, tens of thousands of tons of chickens, potatoes and beef are purchased in the six distribution centres in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xi’an, Chengdu and Shenyang. And from these distribution centres these food materials are then transported to all corners of the country. Obviously, in order to be effective and safe in maintaining a complicated and efficient supply chain of the food materials in China, the company has to use a series of sourcing methods in the local market. In this report, these source methods will be reported in details.
