• Case study
A. Born Globals
In recent years research has identified an increasing number of firms which certainly do not follow the traditional stages pattern in their internationalization process. In contrast, they aim at international markets or maybe even the global market right from their birth. Such firms have been named ‘Born Globals’. ‘Born Globals’ are typically characterized by being SMEs with less than 500 employees and annual sales under $100 million – and reliance on cutting-edge technology in the development of relatively unique product or process innovations.
In this case, the researcher will analyze the corporate governance mode of these ‘Born Globals’ and recommend some solution for Chinese SMEs.
B. GW Technology Co., ltd
GW Technology Co., Ltd is a hi-tech enterprise found on 28 April, 1993 in Beijing, China. With a history of 14 years, engaging in optical transmission in edge network, it is one of the five world pioneers of EPON Chipset design, and now providing professional R&D, manufacturing, marketing and services for solutions and devices over copper and fiber access infrastructures.
In this case, the researcher will analyze the role of CEO in corporate governance issue.
3.4. Data collection method
To collect the necessary information for this dissertation the following approach will be taken:
Library & Internet research
It is fairly easy to locate some books dealing with the topic of corporate governance. By using web sites like the Amazon.com the first set of books dealing with corporate governance can be found.
Most books, papers and reports themselves help to locate other relevant sources by having a list of the used reference material, their bibliographies or author’s reading list.
All the material found has to be grouped in to topic clusters. Then it will be examined if it can be used for this dissertation.
The researcher also collects primary data using interview and questionnaire.
Interview
The researcher will find some chances to meet person who in charge of corporate governance issue of Chinese SMEs, for example the CEO of GW in case study B, the result of these interviews will be discussed in the dissertation.
Chapter 4. Literature review
The purpose of Literature review is to analyze what has already been found by previous researchers on ' corporate governance ' topic, and to what extent the researcher agree or disagree with what had been written, and what point of view has the researcher taken to answer the research questions mentioned above.
