4.1 Data Analysis of Questionnaires
At the beginning of the teaching experiment, a pre-questionnaire was carried outin both experimental class and controlled class. In the whole research, 60questionnaires are distributed to the subjects and 60 questionnaires are returned. Therecovery rate was 100%. To ensure the accuracy of the data, the questionnaires are written in Chinese. All of the students are required to complete the questionnaireaccording to their own actual situation. The main purpose of the pre-questionnaire isto know about the basic information of student’s English learning, the difficulties inthe daily learning process and their reading and spelling ability. Besides, the Englishlearning method and strategies, learning interest as well as their learning attitudestoward English are included. The pre-questionnaire data of the experimental class andcontrolled class are as following.

5.1 Major Findings
The teaching experiment of the research is intended to explore whether students’abilities in word spelling and whether students’ interest in English learning is arousedby the phonics instruction. After 18 weeks, the two questions were worked out andsome completions are obtained as follows:
First of all, phonics method can indeed increase students’ spelling ability. Beforethe experiment, the only way for most students to spell a word is to repeat reading orwriting the letters in a word again and again. This is an inefficient way of memorizingwords and spelling, and it also makes students very painful. Through the teachingexperiment, the big difference can be seen on the data before and after word spelling.phonics greatly enhances students’ ability of word spelling.
