advice to any disabled student who is
considering applying to UCL is to contact the
Disability Centre to discuss any concerns, and
to come and see UCL for themselves to see how
they find it.

Although its sheer size can at first appear
daunting, London has been described as one
of the most liveable cities in the world. With its
comprehensive transport system, it does not
take students long to get to know their way
around the city, so that districts like Highgate
and Islington, themselves villages overtaken by
urbanisation but retaining their own individual
atmosphere, will soon start to fit into place in
the jigsaw that is London.
London is a very green city with a large
number of open spaces; large, formal parks
such as Regent’s Park lie close to UCL in the
centre, with the wilder areas, such as
Hampstead Heath, a few miles further out.
Beyond the famous tourist landmarks, London
remains a city full of vitality. It is pre-eminent in
theatre, with over 40 established theatres
offering the classical repertoire from Shakespeare
to Ibsen and Chekhov, musicals, and plays
from well-known modern playwrights. However,
there is much that is experimental and produced
well away from the established West End
theatres. Add to this the cinema, including the
National Film Theatre showing a daily changing
selection of English-language and foreign films,
the numerous musical events taking place
daily (classical, opera, rock and jazz) and the
changing exhibitions in the nation’s most
important galleries and museums... and you
have an arts scene that is difficult to match
anywhere. Much of this is either free or, if not,
students can normally obtain heavily
discounted tickets.
Being such a cosmopolitan city, London is a
good place both for shopping, some of its
markets being particularly affordable, and
eating, offering almost every cuisine possible,
from Korean to Russian to Lebanese and
Brazilian, and it has an excellent club scene.
London plays a part in the academic life as well
as the social life of being a student at UCL.
Surrounding UCL is the greatest concentration
of libraries, archives and professional bodies in
Europe, and as you move into your final year,
you may well find yourself looking at primary
sources such as manuscripts in the archive of
the East India Company for your project in
history, or using the library of the Royal
Anthropological Institute. Almost every night
there is a lecture somewhere in London on
philosophy run by such societies as the
Aristotelian Society, for example. History of Art
students are regularly taught in front of
paintings and sculptures in the great national
galleries such as the Tate Modern. Construction
management, civil engineering, geography and
urban studies students have the whole of
London as their laboratory, visiting exciting
projects such as the Headlight Building, the
London Eye or the London Docklands
Development area. Law and architecture
students are taught and have lectures from
practising professionals in the City, and
modern language students benefit from the
cultural activities organised around their
subject whether it is a season of French
cinema or lectures by distinguished visiting
academics and intellectuals.
UCL’s location in the heart of London allows
students 论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
