e most, but with the least efficiency and the most errors. It applies the error analysis theory to analyze and count up the lexical errors that occurred in English major’s compositions.
In English teaching process, many teachers pay more attention to grammar than to lexicon. The research on lexicon is much less than that on grammar. That’s why the lexical errors occur more often than grammatical errors for English learners, even the native speakers think that the lexical errors are more serious than grammar errors. This thesis provides certain of bases for lexical research, English teaching and learning and aims to tell students how to master vocabulary, not only by memorizing the connotation of the independent words, but by the denotation and collocation of these words.
To error is human, to forgive divine. Making errors is unavoidable and acceptable in English learning. How to reduce the frequency of lexical errors and how to use the most proper words to express one’s idea in English writing are the two most important questions researchers need to answer.
Due to the depth and width of the author’s knowledge, this thesis has its own limitation. And 30 compositions can’t embody a broad representativeness of English learners. But the author hopes that this thesis can provide a certain foundation for English teaching and learning and plans to make a further research on this topic.
