uge differencesbetween Chinese and English. In the following part, these causes will be discussed indetail.

2.2.1 Lack of Relevant Expertise

He Gangqiang (2009: 34) argues that the translation of social science English works isusually quite difficult. Although the translation of social science texts belongs to generaltranslation, it has its characteristics, which is different from the translation of generalnewspaper articles or prose. When it comes to the translation of general newspaper articlesor prose, translators can start translation even they have only a little common sense. However, when translating a social science work or article, translators should have acertain amount of relevant knowledge before translation, or have to do some “homework”before translation.

Chapter Three Solutions to Major Issues and Difficulties

3.1 Translation of Proper Nouns and Terms

As mentioned in the previous chapter, there are a large number of proper nouns andterms in the book of Society without God. The translation of these proper nouns and termsis very important for the translation of the entire book. Next, the author will further explorethe methods and strategies adopted in translating these nouns in detail.

3.1.1 Adopting the Established Popular Translated Names

Jin Fang(2003: 15) argues that a large number of facts are often used as examples todemonstrate and explain a point of view in social science works, and many people, eventsas well as a wide range of institutions and organizations are also involved usually. Inaddition, there are always a lot of abstract terms in this kind of works. When translatingthese nouns, one principle should be followed, that is, the established popular translatednames should be given priority and at the same time the translation must be consistent.Translation of nouns such as personal names, geographical names, the names oforganizations and institutions, the name of events, and the names of academic terms shouldall follow this principle.

Conclusion

This translation project report is based on the E-C translation of the sixth chapter ofthe book entitled Society without God, a sociological work about the religious and socialconditions in Denmark and Sweden. The introduction of this book can help domesticreaders learn about Scandinavian culture and the cutting-edge results of social scienceresearch, and promote the development of domestic social science. And this project reportmay provide some reference to the E-C translation of social science texts.

During the translation process, the author encountered two major issues, one is thetranslation of proper nouns and terms, and the other is the translation of long sentences. The translation of these proper nouns and terms requires the author to consult a lot ofreference books and authoritative texts 论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
