ABSTRACT
This essay dweils on Jane Austen”s views on love and marriage throughthe analyses of the four marriages in pride and prejudice. She approves marriages of love and is opposed to to those without love. Yet, she still thinks it natural and important to take property into consideration. Owlng to her middle-class origin she has limitations in her manners of thinking.
Pridc and Prejudice, one of the well-known novels in the history of the English literature, was published in 1813. Its author Jane Austenwas a realistic writer.
Jane Austen wote six novels, which while tellinaes interesting stories, analyzed the English middle class, especially women at that time and portrayed their social position and their mentality. She was capable of depicting realistically, humorously and satirically their life, thoughts and feelings and matters in which they were involved, trivial or conplicated.
The significance of her writings lies in their reflection of the real life of the middle class, to which she belonged.
Being an unmarried x”;oman, she was acutely sensitive and highly imaginative. These qualities are clearly seen in her novels, all six of which are about love and marriage. Her sensitivity and wisdom helped her see.
the relations between marriage and wealth and the relations between marriage and the social system. But her simple life experience and Christian educationmade her interested only in happiness, wealth, beauty and marriage.
Prtde and Prejudice is the author”s representative work. In her writing, love is not an isolated thing but connected closely with other social forces. She points out that inarriage is a social affair. So we say that this novel which has love and marriage as its theme is not a novel inerely concerning passion but a novel reflecting social. problems.
The plot of this flovelis complicatedand the tone is humorous. It tells an interesting story with touches of idealism. It shows the author,s Jharp observation and skill in describing people”s ideas and expressing their sent i men ts .
The author describes four marriages here and compares them so as to show her likes and dislikes for different types of people. At the same time, she tells us her own point of view.
The author shows a marked preference for the marriage of the hero Darcy and the heroine Elizabeth over all the others, praising it as an example for all young people. with meticulous arrangement, great care, nioving depiction and painstaking analysis, she portrays for us two images of revolt as symbols of her ideal- Elizabeth is her favourite. In her letter to her sister Cassandra she said of Elizabeth Bennet, "I must confess that I think her as delightful a creature as ever appeared in print. " In her writing, Darcy seems inore lovable than Elizabeth since his character is noble and inoreover he yields to love more conscientiously and reflects
better the strength of real love.
Darcv and Elizabeth are both clever and characterized as people with strong individualities, independent thinking and analytic niinds. They are prudent and clear-headed- On love and marriage they have definite views as they think that a marriage should be a marriage of love and oughtto rely on love as its cornerstone.
Darcy is rich and from a noble family. Being snobbish, he thinks it is easy for him to gain real love and happiness. If he only thought of money and social position, it would be more natural for him to choose Miss De Bourgh or Miss Bin论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
