　　　As Doris Lessing’s masterpiece,The Golden Notebook occupies a major position in the contemporary culture,which the real golden value of novels that appeal to a general readership and scholars of the literary period.it also has the fibers of contemporary concerns: feminist,modernist,postmodernist,Marxist,psychoanalytical, philosophical, social, and economic. For the novel is an encyclopedic.(Paul Schlueter, 1973). The Golden Notebook narrates the life experiences of the free women, Anna and Molly, who seek for freedom. This thesis tries to use text analysis and the relevant theories of feminism to analyze their experiences. It consists of five parts,with three chapters coming between the introduction and the conclusion.
　　　Chapter two, the thesis analyses the elements which lead the free women Anna from three aspects in the process of self-splitting.Anna lives in the changeable times of 20th'century:the Women's Movement; the empty people wants spiritual life after a several wars;the conflict of their political belief. Chapter three, thesis discusses the process of Anna's self-struggling. In this part is about Anna struggles between the disharmonious factors.Chapter four discusses Anna's integration from three parts: a success of being a mother, recovery the career as a writer,reconstruction of the new identity. In a word, she comes to accept her role as a normal person in the society.
　　　The conclusion further proves that, values and influence of her literary works in the world literature history. For The Golden Notebook's perceptual and rational understanding, it contains the description of racism, the thinking of political and philosophy, the understanding of love and literature and so on, we learn how to face our inside world and our understanding of the unique function of literature, so it well worth for us to do the further study.
1.2 Literature Review
　　　The criticism on Doris Lessing was started in the 1960s, and it begins to flood in the following decades in the western world. In the 1990s, the scholars in China likely to pay more attention to her novels. The first pioneering book is Dorothy Brewster's Doris Lessing in 1965.And in 1973，Paul Schlueter published The Novels of Doris Lessing, which is a comprehensive description of Lessing's career in terms of its key themes. One of the earliest articles written in China was written in 1993 by Fu-Xiang Li entitled "The Theme of Politics and Women in Doris Lessing's Novels", which was published in Foreign Literature Review. From that time onwards, the studies of Doris Lessing's works have appeared now and then in journals, and flourished when the twenty-first century comes.
