Conclusion

Through the above analysis and discussion, it is easy to concludethat the MC cloze measured the comprehensive ability and thediscrimination competence of the vocabulary, while the open clozemeasured the wring ability and the structural competence in the NMETHunan 2011. The validity of MC cloze is a higher than that of the opencloze.As an integrative test, cloze test is tailored for students to measuredifferent aspects of language ability. The MC cloze and the open cloze inthe NMET Hunan 2011 were designed to emphasize on measuringdifferent aspects of language ability, because in this two types of clozetests the deleted the redundancy information are at different levels.And the deleted words in the text in two types of cloze testsbelonged to different categories of words (content words and functionwords). So the items designed by deleting different words do appear toproduce cloze tests which are quite different.The MC cloze and the open cloze focused on measuring differentaspects of language ability. In the open cloze testees may be frustrationwithout choices supplied, because it is difficult for them to repair thediscoural chain by filling associated words.
